Old Cairo, arcades and mosques
The vaulted arcade of Ibn Tulun — one of the quietest interiors in medieval Cairo, a short drive from Islamic Cairo and the citadel.

A boutique travel-planning studio based in Cairo, composing private, tailor-made journeys along the Nile and beyond.
Atenara Journeys is a boutique Egypt-based travel-planning studio. Each itinerary is composed for one traveller or party — no groups, no coaches, no scripts.
We are based in Cairo. Guides, drivers, vessels, stays and special arrangements are selected and requested per itinerary and confirmed in your personalised proposal, subject to availability and permissions where relevant.
Every itinerary is composed from a blank page around your pace, taste and curiosities — never a package retitled for the season.
Early-morning starts where possible, a Nile sunset from a felucca, an unhurried afternoon in a temple. Special access arrangements can be requested, subject to permissions and availability.
Private itineraries with guides, drivers and vessels selected per trip. Where an Egyptologist guide is right for the route, we can request one; specifics are confirmed in your personalised proposal, subject to availability.
Egypt is not one destination but several. Cairo and the Delta, the Nile Valley south to Aswan, the western deserts, the Mediterranean and Red Sea. Where you begin depends on the trip you want.

The vaulted arcade of Ibn Tulun — one of the quietest interiors in medieval Cairo, a short drive from Islamic Cairo and the citadel.

A hot-air balloon drifting over Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Kings — an option we can request for suitable dates, subject to operator availability.

The Shali fortress ruins above the oasis — a long drive from Cairo, and a stillness that rewards travellers willing to give it two or three nights.

Fishing boats in the eastern harbour of Alexandria — the coast, the library, and a set of Coptic and Graeco-Roman sites often paired with two nights in Cairo.
Each is a point of departure, not a fixed route. Tell us who is travelling and we’ll rewrite it around you.

A sample private journey — the classical arc, unhurried. Giza in the early light, unhurried hours at the Grand Egyptian Museum, then several nights on a Nile sailing between Esna and Aswan. Adapted to your dates, group size and pace.

For the culturally curious. Long, unhurried hours in the museums and temples that matter, with the specialists who know them best.

Egypt as most travelers never see it — chalk cathedrals in the White Desert, palm-shaded pools at Siwa, and nights under a canvas roof beneath more stars than you have ever counted.

A sample southern arc — Philae in the evening light, an early morning at Abu Simbel where scheduling permits, and an afternoon on the First Cataract with time built in for nothing at all. Adapted to your dates, pace and interests.

Planning happens by conversation, not by online checkout. There is no instant booking, no automated quote and no obligation until you decide the proposal reads right.
A short exchange by form, email or WhatsApp. We ask about your dates, party, interests and pace — nothing binding.
We draft a personalised written proposal: suggested destinations, sample pacing, styles of stay and inclusions — reviewed with you and revised until it reads right.
Once the shape is settled, we approach suppliers to confirm availability, permissions where relevant and firm pricing. Nothing is held automatically.
Payment arrangements are explained transparently before you commit. Pre-trip notes follow. On the ground, support and contact arrangements are agreed in advance and stated in your personalised proposal.

A few of the styles we work with. Photography illustrates the accommodation style; final properties, vessels and rooms are confirmed in your personalised proposal.
Properties are recommendations selected according to availability, itinerary requirements and client preferences.

Textile lanes, brass and mother-of-pearl workshops, an unhurried mint tea in a courtyard café. Visits to individual workshops may be included where available, and are confirmed in your personalised proposal.

A morning by felucca to Kitchener’s Island, a visit to a Nubian village where welcomed, an early Philae. Specific stops are shaped by your proposal and confirmed subject to availability.

Where an Egyptologist guide is right for the route — the terraces of Hatshepsut, the tombs of the Theban West Bank, a considered Karnak — we can request a specialist to suit the sites you care about and the pace you prefer.
Private guiding and vehicle arrangements can be requested and are confirmed in your personalised proposal, subject to supplier availability and permissions where relevant.
